The KNUST chapter of Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE), a non - profit organization, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor. The president of SIFE led the group to brief the V.C. on their recent activities. SIFE is an international organization that mobilizes university students around the world to make a difference in their communities while developing their skills to become socially responsible business leaders.
The SIFE program provides tertiary students with the best opportunity to learn, practice and teach the principles of the market economy. This enables them to acquire practical business experience and help them to create wealth for their communities simultaneously. It is this unique feature of the SIFE program that makes it one of the most effective initiatives in free enterprise education and youth leadership development. Through teaching others, SIFE students gain a practical understanding of how market economies work.
The KNUST chapter of SIFE was established in 2002. As an entrepreneurial organization aimed at practically equipping students with the necessary skills to develop their business potentials, it has organized many competitions and instituted projects to assist students in that respect.
In a briefing, the president enlightened the V.C., Prof. K.K. Adarkwa about the chapter's participation in last year's competition. The said competition involved 14 tertiary institutions. The group performed credibly and won an African Foundation and Institution Award from Coca Cola Company. They also received an award from IPMC, a leading company in computer education.
Furthermore, he thanked the University administration for their continued support for the organization. The group appealed to the Vice - Chancellor to provide them with an office space to facilitate their operations.
The Vice - Chancellor congratulated the group on their successes and for making the University proud. He pledged the continued support of the University to the Organization. Present at the meeting were Mr. Ralph Nyadu Addo (CASS Faculty advisor SIFE, KNUST), K. O. Appiah (KSB Faculty Advisor SIFE, KNUST) and the executive members of the group.
